In-Depth Information
The Radisson Hotel Plymouth Harbor, 180 Water St. ( & 800/333-3333 or
508/747-4900; www.radisson.com), is the only chain hotel downtown. The 175-unit
hotel, on a hill across the street from the waterfront, offers all the usual chain ameni-
ties, including a swimming pool in the atrium lobby. Doubles in high season start at
$139. The Hilton Garden Inn, 4 Home Depot Dr. ( & 877/782-9444 or 508/830-
0200; www.hiltongardeninn.com), is Route 3 Exit 5, about 10 minutes from down-
town. The hotel has an exercise room, an indoor pool, and extensive business features;
doubles go for $139 and up in high season.
Best Western Cold Spring This pleasant motel and its adjacent cottages sur-
round landscaped lawns. Rooms are attractively decorated and big enough for a family
to spread out in; if the adults want some privacy, book a two-bedroom cottage. The fas-
tidiously maintained property has a good-sized outdoor pool, and about half of the guest
rooms have wired high-speed Internet access (there's wireless throughout the property).
I especially like the location, in a quiet, mostly residential part of town convenient to
downtown and the historic sights. The tolerable distance from the water is what makes
the Cold Spring a good deal. The two-story complex is 1 long block inland, set back
from the street.

John Carver Inn & Spa A three-story colonial-style building with a landmark
portico, this hotel offers comfortable, modern accommodations and plenty of ameni-
ties, including a full-service spa. The indoor “theme pool,” a big hit with families, has
a large water slide and a Pilgrim ship model. The good-size guest rooms are regularly
renovated and decorated in colonial style. The best units are the lavishly appointed
two-room suites, with fireplaces, two TVs, and private Jacuzzis; I like the “four-poster”
rooms, which have king beds. The inn is on the edge of the downtown business dis-
trict, within walking distance of the main attractions. Business features and meeting
space make this hotel the Radisson's main competition for corporate travelers. Always
check ahead for packages, which can be a great deal.

Pilgrim Sands on Long Beach This attractive motel sits on its own
beach 3 miles south of town, within walking distance of Plimoth Plantation. Right
smack on the water, it's an excellent choice if you want to avoid the bustle of down-
town. The well-maintained, regularly updated property has an indoor and an outdoor
pool if you don't care for ocean swimming, wireless Internet access in one wing and
the lobby, and a small business center. The helpful staff is eager to offer sightseeing
and dining advice. The good-size guest rooms are tastefully furnished and well main-
tained; all but four are set aside for nonsmokers. Most have two double or queen beds.
