Hotel Marlowe Like Cambridge itself, Hotel Marlowe is fun, funky, and
serious when it needs to be. The hotel opened in 2003 in a new eight-story building
near the CambridgeSide Galleria mall and the Museum of Science—a great location
for families—and offers abundant amenities for both business and leisure travelers.
The rooms are elegantly decorated, with quirky touches like leopard-print carpeting,
and large enough to hold a work desk and armchair. All have down comforters and
three phones (one in the bathroom), and suites have spa tubs. Views are of the river
(across the busy boulevard), a small canal, or the landscaped courtyard/driveway off
the lobby. The eco-savvy hotel's closest competitor is the Royal Sonesta Hotel (see
below), across the street, which has a pool and health club, better river views, and cor-
respondingly higher prices.

Royal Sonesta Hotel This luxurious hotel is close to only a few things
but convenient to everything. It's popular with both business travelers and families
(see “Family-Friendly Hotels,” on p. 87). The CambridgeSide Galleria mall is across
the street, the Museum of Science is around the corner, and Kendall Square is 10 min-
utes away on foot. Even in the midst of all this activity, the hotel feels serene, thanks
in part to the helpful staff. Most of the good-size rooms in the 10-story building have
lovely views of the river or the city (higher prices are for better views). Everything is
custom-designed in modern, comfortable style and regularly refurbished. The closest
competition is Hotel Marlowe (see above), across the street, which offers less extensive
fitness options (there's no pool) and fewer river views.
