Moreover, 3D immersive communications pose significant importance in
the multicasting delivery. As IP multicasting, peer-to-peer networking and
content-centric networking have not been sufficiently deployed (and there are
even doubts if they will ever be), Application Layer Multicasting (ALM) may
provide the required functionality. However, the known in the literature
approaches for ALM nodes selection and ALM overlay (tree or mesh struc-
ture) construction are mainly based on network and geographic only criteria.
In this topic chapter, we have shown that by monitoring and analysing the
Social Network interaction of the participants, we can extract a new perspec-
tive for network awareness that can be exploited in order to correlate network
planning and algorithmic optimizations with digests and primitives of social
network analysis. In this way, user behaviour may be mapped in the applica-
tions
framework and social interaction can be reflected in multicasting and
routing algorithms and content delivery topologies.
