5.9 Prism Poles
When the point to be measured to is a traverse point, the prism will be mounted
on a tripod, because a tripod is very stable and, as we have seen, it is possible to
set a tripod accurately over a point. If the thing to be located is a fence, driveway,
hedge row or other feature where accuracy is not so demanding, the prism can
be mounted on a Prism Pole . A prism pole can be seen in Fig. 5.11 . Prism poles
have built-in bullseye levels which allow the pole to be held vertical so an accu-
