they were located. Whether or not this is true and whether or not this would result
in more repeat business for the old surveyor is unknown. The fact is that many
drill holes are difficult to find, even when one knows exactly where they ought to
be. Figure 11.3 shows a drill hole in the side of a stone found buried beneath the
leaves covering the forest floor. As there are sometimes hundreds of stones in the
vicinity of a property corner, often the only way to find a drill hole is to calculate
its probable location and use an instrument to turn an angle and measure a distance
to where it should be.
Copper or Aluminum Pins are much easier to find than drill holes and for
this reason alone, surveyors should consider using them instead of drill holes
