Getting Married in the
Cayman Islands
If you want to take the plunge and get married on these sun-
dappled islands, there's some r ed tape. Visitors have to call
ahead and arrange for an authorized person to marry them.
The name of the “marriage officer,” as the person is called, has
to appear on the application f or a marriage lic ense. The
application for a special marriage lic ense costs US$180 and
can be obtained fr om the

). There is no waiting period . P resent a
birth c ertificate, the embark ation/disembarkation car ds
issued by the island 's immigration authorities, and, if appli-
cable, divorce decrees or proof of a prior spouse's death.
The Cayman Islands are one of the few Caribbean destina-
tions that allo w U .S. citiz ens t o marr y the same da y they
arrive, instead of requiring a minimum on-island sta y before

all g round arrangements . Wedding ser vice c ompanies can

sleeper, ask for a quiet r oom away fr om v ending or ice machines,
elevators, restaurants, bars, and discos. Ask for a r oom that has been
recently renovated or refurbished.
If y ou ar en't happy with y our r oom when y ou arriv e, ask for
another one. Most lodgings will be willing to accommodate y ou.
You might ask the following questions before booking a room:

What's the view like?
Cost-conscious trav elers may be willing to
pay less for a back r oom facing the par king lot, especially if they
don't plan to spend much time in their r oom.

Does the r oom have air-conditioning or ceiling fans? D o the
windows open?
If they do, and the nighttime entertainment takes
place alfresco, you may want to find out when sho wtime is over.
