LANGUAGE English is the official language of the islands.
LEGAL AID In such a small island countr y, ther e ar e no local
resources for legal aid. You must hire a loyal lawyer, and be prepared
to post some upfront money.
LOST & FOUND Be sure to tell all of y our credit card companies
the minute you discover your wallet has been lost or stolen, and file a
report at the near est police pr ecinct. Your cr edit car d company or
insurer may require a police report number or record of the loss. Most
credit card companies hav e an emergency toll-fr ee number to call if
your card is lost or stolen; they may be able to wie you a cash advance

MAIL Most mail takes fr om 2 to 7 days, if airmailed, to r each
points between the Cayman Islands and the U.S. mainland. The Cay-
man Islands don't use postal or zip codes. The main post office in
George Town lies at E dward Street and Car dinal Avenue ( & 345/
949-2474 ), betw een the R oyal B ank of Canada and the B ank of

A postcard to the U nited States costs CI20¢. An airmail letter to
the U.S. costs CI75¢ per half-ounce. Rates to E urope are CI80¢ per
half-ounce for an airmail letter . Postcards to Canada, the U.K., A us-
tralia, and New Zealand range in price fr om CI20¢ to CI$1; airmail
letters range from CI75¢ to CI$1 per ounce. I t's recommended that
packages be sent b y F ederal E xpress or another trackable deliv ery
service.
NEWSPAPERS & MAGAZINES Published daily, the C aymanian
Compass is the most popular ne wspaper on Grand Cayman. The Fri-
day edition is especially helpful because it lists current and upcoming
events. Rival papers include New Caymanian, published every Friday,
