4 BEACHES, SCUBA DIVING &
OTHER OUTDOOR PURSUITS
Visit Little Cayman for the diving, fishing, and beaches, not for the
sightseeing, although there are a few sights to see.
Little Cayman has long been popular with bir ders and anglers, but
scuba diving is its main allur e. Some 60 dive sites—marked with moor-
ings—are found along this 16km (10-mile) island. The most celebrated
site is Bloody Bay Wall (see below) on the northern tier of the island.
THE BEACHES
Point of S and is our fav orite beach on the island, located at the
very southeastern tip of Little Cayman and accessible fr om Blossom
Village by heading east along G uy Banks Road. Point of Sand is also
great for snorkeling and the sand her e is luminescent pink. O n most
weekdays, you'll have the beach to y ourself, although many visitors
come over on Saturday and Sunday from Cayman Brac. Plan to take
a picnic lunch and enjoy it at a covered picnic table. You'll find bath-
rooms and changing facilities her e. It's dangerous to attempt to take
a jeep do wn to the beach because y ou might get stuck in the deep
sands. Park it at the lot and walk do wn to the beach.
Owen Island lies off the southw estern coast, east of B lossom
Village and S outh Town, in S outh H ole S ound, which is betw een
Booby Pond and Tarpon Lake. The island—which features a beautiful
sand beach—is an easy 180m (590-ft.) r owboat ride off the coast.
Plan to pack a picnic lunch and make a day of it. Ow en Island—
locals call it “ the Cay”—is the four th-largest island in the Cayman
archipelago, yet it consists of only 4.4 hectares (11 acres). It's an idyl-
lic spot with tr ees and plenty of sand, plus gulls and migrant waders
in its shallow waters and flats. Many resorts on Little Cayman sched-
ule picnic trips to this secluded island. The snor keling is especially
good on the south side. M any visitors rent a kayak at Little Cayman
Beach Resort (p. 176) and spend a day her e, which could be as close
as you'll get to living a R obinson Crusoe existence.

SCUBA DIVING & SNORKELING
One of the most spectacular and most v aried div e locations in the
world is Bloody B ay M arine P ark , r eached along N orth
Coast Road and lying between Sam McCoy's Diving & Fishing Lodge
(p. 178) in the west and Jackson Point to the northeast. To the east is
Jackson Wall, with the B loody Bay Wall lying to the w est. A total of
22 listed dive sites are found in this par k alone. The snorkeling here
is also very rewarding.
