Southern Cr oss Club Opened in 1959, this was the first
resort ev er on Little Cayman. The inn, which attracts div ers and
fishermen, must be doing something right, considering that two-
thirds of the patr ons ar e r epeat customers—the highest such rate
anywhere in the Cayman Islands. On the southern side of Little Cay-
man, the r esort lies to the southeast of Boob y Pond, opening onto
Head O' B ay, with the offshor e Ow en I sland clearly visible. The
Southern Cross is named after the constellation, which can be seen
here on a clear winter's night.
The r ooms open onto 240m (787 ft.) of golden sands. A ccom-
modations are in comfortably furnished one-bedroom cottages, with
one unit containing two bedr ooms. B edrooms ar e decorated in a
simple Caribbean style, and each has a sitting room and a small bath-
room. This resort is among the very best for fishing, with two boats—
one deep-sea, one flat—for deep-sea fishing or fishing in the lake. No
more than 12 divers go out at one time in the resort's dive boat. Bikes
and kayaks ar e pr ovided fr ee. H otel guests, islanders, and visitors
patronize the restaurant and bar, making this one of Little Cayman 's
few nightlife spots (p. 185).
