EXPLORING BY CAR
The Bluff is the island 's most distinctiv e geographic featur e. As
mentioned before, the Bluff is a soaring limestone plateau rising 42m
(138 ft.) above the sea, covering much of the easternmost point of the
island. To drive up the Bluff, take Ashton Reid Drive, the one paved
road that leads to the summit. The panoramic vie w over the south
side of the Bluff is well worth the journey. If you suffer from vertigo,
know that it is a sheer dr op to the sea below. Many people choose to
hike up the Bluff (see “Hiking,” below).
To get acquainted with the B rac version of M other Nature, take
one of the guided natur e tours r un b y Cantr ell Scott and K eino
Daley, the go vernment's tour guides. What they don 't kno w about
Cayman Brac isn't worth knowing. They can, for example, name all
50 to 60 species of bir ds that, at least for par t of the y ear, land on
Cayman Brac. Tours last about 3 hours and ar e free. Mr. Scott and
Mr. Daley will join y ou in y our car for the tour . Call & 345/948-
2651 to establish a meeting time and place.
FISHING
Fishing is another r eason many visitors come to Cayman B rac: The
fishing here rivals that on Little Cayman. Bonefishing inside the r eef
along the coast to the southwest is especially rewarding. Catches around
the island include wahoo, sailfish, marlin, tuna, gr ouper, and snapper.
Indepth Watersports ( & 866/476-2195 or 345/948-8037; www.
indepthwatersports.com) has fishing char ters for US$500 per half-
day or US$1,000 for a full day for up to eight fishermen.
