Pure Art This is the most cr eative and most imaginative gift shop
in the Cayman I slands. Located within an unpr etentious and lo w-
slung wood-frame house about a mile south of G eorge Town proper,
it has reached its present level of fascination under the stewardship of
Debbie Chase, a U.S.-born ar tist. S he has friendly r elations with
craftspeople throughout the Cayman Islands, which has resulted in a
treasure trove of gift items that ar e a lot more interesting than what's
available at many nearby competitors. Expect a densely packed envi-
ronment loaded with paintings, ar tifacts, books, and clev er hand-
crafted items fr om the Caymans, C uba, J amaica, K ey West, and
Central America. The common denominator linking all the items is
good taste, good humor , and an appr eciation for detail-intensiv e
labor. The collection of island-inspired jewelry is particularly compre-
hensive. 5 S. Chur ch St. at Denham- Thompson Way, Geor ge Town.

Shellections Few other shops on G rand Cayman sell seashells in
such an imaginative way. Look for boxes covered with seashells, deli-
cate shells accented with gold trim, and—best of all—some of the
most artful Christmas decorations w e've ever seen, including angels,
cherubs, and infants in swaddling clothes, all of them crafted fr om
fish bone, shells, gauz e, shiny gilt ribbons, and gilt paint. You'll also
find T-shirts, black coral jewelry, and blown-glass paperweights. This
is the largest of three branches of this store. The other two are found
at the Waterfront Center and across from the Bayshore Mall. Harbour
St. at the corner of Shedden Rd., George Town. & 345/946-4590.
