Queen Elizabeth II B otanic P ark On 24 hectar es (59
acres) of rugged wooded land off Frank Sound Road, North Side, this
park allows visitors to take a short walk through wetland, swamp, dry
thicket, mahogany-tree stands, and patches of or chids and br omeli-
ads. Hurricane Ivan destroyed some of the vegetation, but since then,
the park has grown back. The trail is 1km ( 2 / 3 mile) long. You'll likely
see chickatees, which ar e freshwater turtles found only on the Cay-
mans and in C uba. Occasionally you'll spot the rar e Grand Cayman
parrot, or perhaps the anole lizard, with its cobalt-blue throat pouch.
Even rarer is the endanger ed blue iguana. The visitor center featur es
changing exhibitions, plus a canteen for food and r efreshments. It's
set adjacent to the woodland trail and includes a heritage garden with
a re-creation of a traditional Cayman home, garden, and farm; a floral
garden with flowering plants; and a lake with thr ee islands, home to
many nativ e bir ds. A bout 1 hour is sufficient time for visiting the
botanic park.

The Butter fly F arm Lovers of the beautiful, elusiv e butter fly
flock to G rand Cayman 's latest attraction. H ere, y ou can enter a
mesh-enclosed area where butterflies from all o ver the world flutter
freely.
You'll find a wealth of information on the butter fly life cycle here.
We learned that females perpetuate the butter fly world, as males
spend most of their lives getting drunk on rotten fruit. The males flit
about showing off their vivid, beautiful wings, tr ying to attract the
females (who are usually drably colored in comparison).
The farm also features several species of moths, including the Atlas
moth, the largest moth in the world. With a typical wingspan of
36cm (14 in.), it's the size of a small bird.
Guided tours take you through the farm where the staff will answer
all your questions about butter flies. Expect to spend about 45 min-
utes at this attraction.
