Arm yourself with a map (the tourist office will help you plot
a route) and star t at the Old C ourts Building, now the Cay-

exhibits of the natural and cultural hist ory of the island . To
your left as you leave is Panton Square, with three old Cay-
man houses distinguished b y pit ched gables and ornat e
fretwork. On Harbour Driv e, past the cruisedock , is Elmslie
Memorial Chur ch, built b y C aptain R ayal Bodden, a w ell-
known shipwright. To the right, b y the park ing lot, ar e old
grave markers shaped like houses , with small ones f or chil-

circular concrete tanks in which these sea creatures exist in every stage
of development; the hope is that one day their population in the sea
will regain its former status.
Turtles here range in siz e from 6 ounces to 600 pounds. S pecific
tanks give guests the opportunity to touch hatchling and baby turtles.
Aside from turtles, the farm also has sharks, fish, and birds on display.
You can expect to spend about an hour at touring the tur tle farm. At
the snack bar and r estaurant, you can sample tur tle dishes. There's a
well-stocked gift shop on-site. Choose fr om two tour options: Take
the “dry tour,” and visit the facilities only , or take the “ wet tour,”
which includes the oppor tunity to snor kel in the ar tificial lagoon
stocked with fish. The lagoon shar es a glass wall with a shar k tank,
allowing snorkelers to swim “with” the sharks. During Pirates Week,
baby tur tles are released fr om the farm into the open ocean. Note:
Many countries ban the importation of sea-turtle products, according
to the Conv ention of I nternational Trade in E ndangered S pecies.
More than likely, you won't be able to take home any souvenirs made
out of sea tur tles. For more information on the ban, see “ What You
Can Take Home from the Cayman Islands,” in chapter 2.
