Stackpole Inn GASTROPUB This gastropub, a 15-minute walk from Barafundle
Bay, has a restaurant run by head chef Andrew Griffith, a veteran of posh London
eatery Gordon Ramsay at Claridges. The menu features dishes such as glazed pork
belly with caramelized scallops, carrot purée and vinaigrette, and there are daily spe-
cials. The dining room has beamed ceilings, stone walls, and a wood-burning stove,
and there are tables on the lawn. A selection of Welsh beer (including Double
Dragon) is backed up by guest beers from around the U.K. Four soft, white guest
rooms in a separate building offer a smart place to stay (£80 double).

Entertainment & Nightlife
Nightlife here isn't sophisticated. Tenby has more than a dozen pubs, such as the
simple Buckaneer Inn, on Julian Street ( &   01834/842273 ) and the more boister-
ous Sun, on the High Street ( &   01834/845941 ). There are several brash night-
clubs: Sands, in the adjoining resort of Saundersfoot ( &   01834/813728 ); and
Jammo's ( &   01834/845279 ) and DJ's ( &   01834/849400 ) in Penally.
Where to Stay
Atlantic Hotel This grand old hotel looks out over the sea from Tenby's cliff-
top seafront, with sweeping views of South Beach, Caldey Island, and Castle Hill.
There are stylish but unfussy rooms, an indoor pool, the old-world charm of Car-
rington's restaurant, and a comfy lounge. There are sea-facing gardens from which
you can descend to the beach.

Lamphey Court Hotel This Georgian mansion, amid landscaped gardens, has
a formal country-house feel. You can stay in the house, where the rooms are more
traditional, or in the adjoining Coach House, with 2-bedroom suites ideal for families.
Its two restaurants (see “Where to Eat,” above) are top class.

Manorbier Youth Hostel Wales has some wonderful Youth Hostels in idyllic
locations, and this is one of the best, a striking modern building above Manorbier
Beach. It's almost on the coastal path, with cliff walks over to other bays and beaches.
The place is simple but classy with en suite rooms ideal for families, as well as the
option of good meals and fair trade coffee, or self-catering.

Penally Abbey Just outside Tenby, this country-house hotel sits next to a Nor-
man church in the village of Penally. It comprises three buildings (St. Deiniol's Lodge,
Coach House, and Abbey House) on the site of a 6th-century monastery and looks
over the sea toward Tenby and the Gower Peninsula. The bedrooms are furnished
