complimentary glass of wine, an honesty bar, and fabulous beds. Some of the best
breakfasts in the northeast (£15 English, £12 Continental) are served here, featuring
local produce including a choice of 12 kinds of sausage, Whitby kippers, homemade
jams and waffles, and toasted crumpets with Yorkshire ham, poached eggs, and moz-
zarella. The hotel occupies an 18th-century cornmill, so each room is unique:
Exposed beams, brickwork, iron girders, and even former mill mechanisms all feature
prominently. Some rooms have canal views. Families can make use of free cribs, extra
beds (in Director's rooms), and interconnecting rooms.

Rambles B&B The most alluring option in the Hebden Bridge area,
this converted stone barn 20 minutes' walk from the town itself has large grounds
traversed by the Pennine Way (p. 535), making it the perfect spot for walkers. With
such stunning countryside views, rooms could be an afterthought, but the hostess has
created comfy, chintz-free rooms with excellent beds and bedding, flat-screen TVs,
and thick fluffy towels. At press time, a King Room with an adjoining bunk room for
kids was being set up, as was a stable-block for guests' horses. Scrumptious breakfasts
include eggs from the hostess's own chickens and home-baked crumpets and muffins
(for a £4 supplement you can get a cooked free-range breakfast, traditional or veggie).
This place is a good option for those who don't have their own wheels—for a small
fee you can get lifts to and from local transport hubs, restaurants, and so on.

Roomzzz Leeds City Claiming to combine the best features of bou-
tique hotels and serviced apartments, this “apart-hotel” offers good facilities and high
standards at an enticing price—especially for advanced purchase (rates rise as occu-
pancy increases). There are three locations in Leeds, one in Manchester, and one in
Cardiff. This, the most central one in Leeds, offers cleverly designed studios sleeping
two guests, or one- or two-bedroom suites for four, all with compact kitchens with
dishwashers and washer-driers. Furniture is multifunctional—in some units, desks
become dining tables, for example—and some studios have little balconies. Ideal for
short or longer stays, Roomzzz offers the flexibility for savvy families, for whom the
Maxima Suites with their double bedroom and bunkbed room are perfect. Rates
include a “Grab & Go” breakfast of fruit, fruit juice, pastries, and tea/coffee. There
are other apart-hotels at Leeds City West, 15 minutes' walk from the center, handy
for the airport, and in buzzy, student-enclave Headingley .

Weaver's This “restaurant and bar with rooms” on a cobbled street in Haworth
is well worth checking into for the night—not least because staying over allows you
to extend your gastronomic pleasure by partaking of a breakfast that might include a
Virgin Bloody Mary; kedgeree frittatas; Pennine oatcake with melting Wensleydale
cheese, mushroom, and tomato; or bangers (sausages) and onions in a bread cake.
