Sharrow Bay Country House Hotel
This was Britain's first country-
house hotel, converted in the early 1950s into one of England's finest dining estab-
lishments. Sitting on 4.8 hectares (12 acres), the hotel offers 26 antiques-filled
bedrooms, 17 of them in the gatehouse and cottages. Each is individually decorated
and named after one or another of the glamorous (and often famous) women who
