South of Wilmslow, near Goostrey, the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics

in April 2011, with a Space Pavilion for exhibitions and events and a glass-walled cafe
with spectacular views of the iconic Lovell Telescope, one of the world's most powerful
radio telescopes.
Lyme Park PARK Set in gardens and its own huge deer park, this country
house will be recognizable to many as Mr. Darcy's Pemberley in the BBC's 1995 Pride
and Prejudice . For adults, a highlight is the liturgical Lyme Caxton Missal in the
library, with a touch-screen facility so you can “turn” its pages and hear chants sung
as they would have been 500 years ago; for kids, the Crow Wood Playscape, opened
in 2011, is an innovative playground with a treehouse, rope, and timber walkways,
tree-trunk climbing, and giant badger sets.

Tatton Park PARK Also surrounded by a magnificent deer park, this
superb mansion and estate is Cheshire's big-hitter, host to legions of prominent
events throughout the year, including antiques fairs, classic car shows, flower shows,
outdoor concerts and theatre, and Christmas events. As well as the mansion itself,
visitors can access the lovely gardens and working rare-breeds farm, while kids love
the adventure playground and seasonal fun-fair rides, and there's bike rental.

Dun Cow MODERN BRITISH This award-winning dining pub not far
from Tatton Park was recently rescued from oblivion and stylishly revamped to
become a hotspot for creative, beautifully executed cuisine based on top local pro-
duce. Menus change seasonally, but you might enjoy butter-roasted pigeon with liver
parfait, black pudding (blood sausage), and blackberries, or rare-breed pork filet with
wild-boar bacon, Koffman cabbage, dauphinoise potato, apple tart, sage, and cider
jus. Desserts such as warm sugar-coated donuts with strawberry jelly, strawberry and
tarragon milkshake, honey, and vanilla espuma are worth leaving room for. The bar,
with its old beams and log fires, is a cozy spot for real ales.
