The Elms Hotel This is one of the most impressive hotels in the region, a
Queen Anne mansion built in 1710 by Gilbert White, a disciple of Sir Christopher
Wren. Like Bant's (see below), it lies on the outskirts of Worcester, is easy to get to,
and offers a sort of fantasy version of olde England. The Elms, however, is far more
upscale, complete with mahogany or walnut 18th- and 19th-century antiques, a lav-
ish modern spa, and log-burning fireplaces. Bedrooms come in various shapes and
sizes, and feature twin or double beds. The Elms welcomes families more than
any other hotel in the area. Insider tip: If you notify the staff in advance, a member
will round up all your baby needs in advance, from food to nappies (diapers to
Americans).

priory. Standard rooms are simply but comfortably decorated in a classical English
style, while superiors are a notch up in style and space, many with views of the
Malvern Hills.

Bant's Pub This gorgeous 16th-century country inn lies a 10-minute drive
outside Worcester in rolling countryside. It's not so convenient for exploring the cen-
ter of the city, but perfect for driving around the area. The oak-beamed rooms are
warmly decorated and extremely cozy. It's been owned and managed by the Bant
family since 1985, and the pub downstairs serves local cider, beer, and solid bar food
sourced from local suppliers.

Cotford Hotel A 5-minute walk east of the town center, this stately Victorian
home dates from 1851, when it was built as the local bishop's residence. Constructed
of Cotswold stone and accented with lavish gingerbread, the main appeal derives
from its monumental historic premises, the warm welcome, and such Victorian
touches as the tile-floored wide entrance hallway. The bedrooms, mostly midsize, are
