Real ale drinkers should make for the Old Fourpenny Shop Hotel ( &   01926/

selection of traditional cask beers from all over the country and a selection of quality
wines. The Rose & Crown, at 30 Market Place ( &   01926/411117; www.roseand
crownwarwick.co.uk), is another inn and restaurant that's a great place for a drink,
with beers such as Black Sheep, Warwickshire Purity Gold, and a weekly guest ale
on tap.

Glebe Hotel This 1820s' rectory to the Church of St. Peter has been wel-
coming wayfarers to Warwick since it was successfully converted into a small coun-
try-house hotel in 1948. Each of the compact bedrooms has been individually
designed with a tented ceiling and a four-poster or coronet-style bed. The Cedars
Conservatory Restaurant looks out onto the gardens, and there's even a small
swimming pool with hydrojets. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from the center of
Warwick.

Hilton Warwick Though it's outside of town, the Hilton is the best choice if
you're using Warwick as a base to explore the area. Rooms are standard chain fare,
but comfortable enough and come with flat-screen TVs and all the usual amenities.
Lying at the junction of a network of highways, it's popular with business travelers,
but tourists also find that its comfort and easy-to-find location make it a good base
for touring. The hotel sports a low-rise modern design with a series of interconnected
bars, lounges, and public areas.

Park Cottage This gorgeous B&B set in a 15th-century timber-frame cottage
once was owned by the earls of Warwick. It's justly popular in large part thanks to
thoughtful hosts Janet and Stuart Baldry and their exceptional rooms. All feature
wood or parquet floors, oak beams, and antique furniture; the Elizabeth Room has a
beautifully carved four-poster. The cottage is literally opposite the castle entrance,
and is adorned with hanging baskets overflowing with blossoms.
