completed in 1937. Though it's realistic and big enough that you can walk through it,
the models haven't been touched up in years and it's rather pricey considering you'll
be finished in 15 minutes. Admission is £3.60 adults, £3.20 for seniors, £2.80 for
children 4 to 13, and free for children 3 and under. It's open daily 10am to 5:45pm
(winter daily 10am-3:45pm).
Birdland ZOO This handsomely designed attraction sits on 3.4 hectares (8 1 2
acres) of field and forests on the banks of the River Windrush, about 1 mile east of
Bourton-on-the-Water. It houses about 500 birds, including three species of pen-
guins, guaranteed to amuse even the most jaded of children. Other feathered friends
include pelicans, storks, flamingos, cranes, parrots, toucans, kookaburras, and pheas-
ants. Birdland also has a picnic area and a children's playground.

Cotswold Motoring Museum & Toy Collection MUSEUM Children and
adults will love this collection of vintage cars, motorcycles, caravans, and associated
bric-a-brac. The exhibits include everything from London taxis and Morris Minors to
Brough Superior bikes and a plush Jaguar XK140. Some kids might especially enjoy
seeing the little car from the BBC TV show Brum, which was filmed here.

Cotswold Perfumery FACTORY TOUR This perfume maker has been in
business since 1965, one of only a handful in Europe that make and sell their prod-
ucts on-site. Perfumes are sold in the shop, ranging from £2 to £35 each, depending
on their size. To get a greater understanding of what goes into them, take the 45-min-
ute factory tour, which also chronicles the history of the perfume industry and its
production (tours must be pre-booked).

Cotswold Pottery ARTS & CRAFTS Tucked away at the back of the village,
this delightful ceramics workshop is the home and studio of artists John and Jude Jelfs
(John is a wheel-thrown pot specialist, while Jude focuses on hand-built sculpture).
You'll often be able to see them working inside, where examples of their exceptional
pieces are on sale, from mugs and teapots to larger ornamental pots and sculpture.

Where to Eat & Stay
Chester House Hotel This Victorian house, built on the banks of the Win-
drush River, offers immaculate rooms that mix a fresh contemporary style with
antique beds and fittings (some with four-posters). The Chester House bar and
lounge is a great place to eat, open from 9am for morning coffee and serving con-
temporary French and English food and snacks until 5pm. The bar is open for drinks
until 11pm.
