Best Western Stratton House Hotel Now part of the Best Western stable,
this inviting country house is especially well priced, despite looking a bit tired and
old-fashioned in places. Built in several stages throughout the 18th century, with a
modern wing added in the 1990s, it has large, well-furnished rooms (the “cozy” rooms
being the smallest of the lot); some have four-poster beds. It's 1 1 4 miles (20-min.
walk) northwest of Cirencester town center.

Fleece Hotel For a historic choice in the center of town, it's hard to beat this half-
timbered Elizabethan coaching inn. Charles II hid out on this site, posing as a servant
to the house mistress, Jane Lane, in 1651, with Cromwell's troops in hot pursuit. The
inn was enlarged in the Georgian period and today offers comfortable, small-to-mid-
size rooms decorated in an old-fashioned English country style. Two rooms are large
enough for families, and two have four-poster beds. The on-site 1651 restaurant
and bar serves reasonable English and Continental cuisine.

A Side Trip from Cirencester
BIBURY
Bibury is one of the loveliest spots in the Cotswolds. In fact, William Morris called it
England's most beautiful village.
