Shopping
Truro city center has plenty of high-street shops from M&S to surfwear chains, as
well as independent stores. Lemon Street Market (www.lemonstreetmarket.co.uk)
is an attractive indoor center with lots of small shops and the great Lander gallery.
Here you can buy plenty of locally made artworks, from paintings to jewelry. There's
a couple of good cafes, too.
St. Mawes has a couple of galleries and good places for stocking up on souvenirs.
The Waterside Gallery on Marine Parade ( &   01326/270136; www.waterside
gallery.co.uk) stocks beautiful works by Cornish artists. Falmouth has a good selec-
tion of shops, with a mix of clothes shops, art galleries, food stores, and souvenir
shops. As well as the High Street area, there are also shops at Discovery Quay, by the
Maritime Museum.

Idle Rocks Hotel Perched right on the seawall, the Idle Rocks hotel has
a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff, and an excellent restaurant. Water
laps at the wall, and you could sit for hours on the terrace enjoying the views of the
harbor and the constant traffic of sailboats and dinghies. Rooms are spacious and
comfortable, and most have sea or river views: It is well worth paying the extra for the
view. Four cottage rooms in the annex are so close to the water that the waves can
splash against the windows. The waterfront restaurant serves imaginative dishes
using excellent local produce. Cream teas, served on the terrace on fine days, are
popular, too.

The Hen House Genuinely eco-friendly and comfortable, this little B&B
is tucked away among a maze of country lanes on the Helston peninsula. Two farm
