Where to Stay
Athenaeum Lodge This bijou guesthouse is located about 10 minutes' walk from
the Barbican district. Jane and David Kewell are the kind of owners who really seem
to enjoy what they do, and their knowledge of the local area is second to none. The
decor may be a little traditional for some tastes, but bedrooms are comfortable and
spotlessly clean. Breakfasts are well done (though don't expect much variety). A few
extras, such as free Wi-Fi and a computer for guests' use, put this place above the
norm for B&Bs of this size and price range.

Caledonia Guest House A 2-minute walk from the beautiful sea views of
Plymouth Hoe, this B&B in a converted Victorian townhouse offers exceptional value
for money. Bedrooms are clean and cozy, although not all have private bathrooms
(make sure you ask for an en suite unit if this matters). It won't win any design
awards, but it's comfortable and well equipped. Disabled visitors and those with
mobility problems are particularly well catered for here; despite its age, the building
has been fairly well adapted for wheelchair users. There are also thoughtful touches
such as guide rails and Braille menus available.
