more space and a sitting area and kitchen of your own, and self-catering apartments
that are significantly cheaper if you intend to stay for a week (£295-£545 per week).

of the town and the sea. Its five guest rooms are tastefully furnished in shades of
cream and white, and they range in size from pretty spacious to rather tiny. Bathrooms
are very small, but have all that you need. The owners are welcoming and helpful,
and the price is reasonable.

Royal Castle Hotel A sympathetically restored, grand old inn on the waterfront,
the Royal Castle has been welcoming guests—including Queen Victoria, Charles II,
and Edward VII—for hundreds of years. The glassed-in courtyard, with its winding
wooden staircase, displays the service bells once connected to the guest rooms. Rooms
are spacious and decorated in pale, soothing colors, with big comfortable beds—many
units have sweeping views of the marina, though these cost more. Bathrooms have been
renovated. Breakfasts are so filling you may not need to eat again until dinner, and staff
are consistently polite. The hotel pub—with its thick wood beams—is in the oldest part
of the building, and is a great place for an evening drink.
