breast of pigeon with crushed potatoes; and slow cooked lamb shank with pea and

The Bathtub Bistro MODERN ENGLISH This fashionable, cozy restaurant
features home-style British cooking: Cheaper, hearty plates for lunch, such as ham
hock, split pea and mint stew; and, for dinner, the exceptional crispy pork belly with
bacon, red-pepper cabbage, black pudding, and rich cider sauce. There's also a rea-
sonably priced steak, served with roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, and watercress.
2 Grove St. &   01225/460593. www.thebathtubbistro.co.uk. Reservations recommended. Main courses

Bistro La Barrique FRENCH Renowned chef Michel Lemoine created
quite a buzz when he opened this branch of his popular Bristol-based restaurant
in Bath, with his justly lauded “petits plats” (French tapas) concept. Order several
dishes to share with some crusty French bread; the sea bass, creamed salted cod,
and roast chicken with spinach and honey are solid choices, but the bourguignon-
style braised ox cheek with mash is truly exquisite. The relaxed atmosphere makes
this a great place to just grab a glass of wine and small snack if you're not in the
mood for a full meal.
31 Barton St. &   01225/463861. www.bistrolabarrique.co.uk. Small plates £5.50-£5.95. MC, V. Mon-Fri
noon-2:30pm and 5:30-10:30pm, Sat noon-10:30pm.
Lime Lounge MODERN ENGLISH/CONTINENTAL Some of the best
and friendliest service in the region separates this cozy bistro from the competition,
though the food is also top-notch. The daytime menu features homemade soups and
cakes, salads, burgers, and a range of sandwiches on specialty breads. Evenings are
characterized by more substantial dishes such as pork with creamed apple and a cider
and stilton sauce. But there are also riffs on old Brit classics: Think “posh” fish and
chips (monkfish with Cajun and lime-dusted fat chips). Hot chocolate fans are also
in for a treat.

ommended. Lunch from £7.95; dinner main courses £11-£15. MC, V. Mon-Sat 8am-late, Sun 10am-late.
