more famous flea market is held in the parking lot of the train station, but only on
Sunday from 6am to 2pm.
Entertainment & Nightlife
Offering drama year-round is the Theatre Royal, New Road ( &   08700/606650 ),
with pre-London shows. Bigger concerts are held at Brighton Centre, King's Road
( &   01273/290131; www.brightoncentre.co.uk), a 5,000-seat facility featuring
mainly pop-music shows.
Komedia, 44 Gardner St. ( &   01273/687171; www.komedia.co.uk), is a venue
that hosts everything from top indie bands (British Sea Power) to the Banff Film
Festival tour, and from top comedy to Brighton Jazz Club. The Latest Music Bar,
14 Manchester St. ( &   01273/687171; www.thelatest.co.uk), combines the latest
in live music with party-style club nights. Pubs all over the city regularly have live
music, often free.
There are plenty of nightclubs in Brighton; some have been around for a while,
others come and go. Check www.visitbrighton or www.brightonlife.com for up-
to-date info. There's often free admission early on or midweek rising to £10, but times
and prices often vary from week to week or season to season.

Arches, is a bar by day and a lively club at night, with downstairs dance floor. Audio,

places that continues to buzz, with a clutch of different, hard-hitting club nights.

still clubbing but with a funk-latin-jazz feel.

brighton's GAY SCENE
Brighton has long been regarded as Brit-
ain's gay capital. It has the country's big-
gest gay festival (Pride, in early Aug),
and a thriving scene of bars, clubs, and
hotels. Most of the action is in the Gay
Quarter in Kemp Town, a compact strip
just off the seafront. Dr Brighton, 16

is one of the mainstays, and has a street
party during Pride. Legends, 31 Marine

nightclub. The Marlborough, 4 Princes St.

pub opposite the Royal Pavilion with a
cabaret theatre. Of the clubs, Revenge,

lots of gay-friendly live acts from reality
TV shows such as X Factor. The Charles

spills onto the street, with a popular club
above. Of the hotels, Colson House, 17
