Wholefoods The flagship Wholefoods shop in Kensington is a bit of a joy, if you
have the money to enjoy it. Full of tasty (mostly organic) treats, this is a real haven
for foodies. It feels like an indoor market (without the haggling) and you'll find every
type of food you could wish for. You won't be able to walk past the cakes without
sampling something sweet, but avoid it at lunchtimes, when it draws a huge office
crowd and gets too busy. 63-97 Kensington High St., W8. &   020/7368-4500. www.wholefoods

Caravan In the mood for a white rabbit lamp, or an owl money box? Then
head for the showroom of interior stylist Emily Chalmers, who oversees this beautiful
collection in flea market-style chic in Shoreditch. It has a vintage vibe to it, but
everything is newly made. Perfect for dipping your toe into the vintage shopping
scene. Chalmers is also the author of three topics on interiors. 3 Redchurch St., E2.

Designers Guild After more than 3 decades in business, creative director Tricia
Guild and her young designers still lead the pack in all that's bright and whimsical.
They are often copied but never outdone. There's an exclusive line of handmade
furniture and accessories at the no. 267-271 location, and wallpaper and more than
2,000 fabrics at the neighboring no. 275-277 shop. The colors remain vivid forever,
and the designs are always irreverent. Also available are children's accessories, toys,
crockery, and cutlery. 267-271 and 275-277 King's Rd., SW3. &   020/7351-5775. www.designers

MUSIC
Collectors should browse Notting Hill, because the handful of record shops near
Notting Hill Gate Tube station are excellent. Also browse Soho around Wardour
Street and near the Tottenham Court Road Tube stop. Sometimes dealers show up
at Covent Garden on the weekends.
Dress Circle This store is unique in London in that it's devoted to musical
theatre and standard vocalists such as Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. After half a
century, recordings in the U.K. enter the public domain—hence the lower prices on
re-released CDs of West End and Broadway musicals from the 1950s. New releases,
of course, cost at least three times more. Karaoke recordings and even theatrical
souvenirs are sold—perhaps a Bette Davis doll as Margo Channing in All About Eve.
57-59 Monmouth St., WC2. &   020/7240-2227. www.dresscircle.co.uk. Tube: Covent Garden.
Duke of Uke This fabulously named shop sells all things ukulele. It sells
banjos and standard guitars as well, but really it's all about the Uke. There's great
events here as well, so keep your eyes (and ears) open. 22 Hanbury St., E1. &   020/
7247-7924. www.dukeofuke.co.uk. Tube: Whitechapel or Aldgate East.
