SH-SY5Y cells by retinoic acid and the expression of the BDNF receptor
(TrkB). After the induction of a reduced cellular viability by the treatment
with retinoic acid, the phenomenon of neuroprotection by BDNF and the
effect of potentiation of this neurotrophic factor by EPA and liquid crystalline
lipid nanocarrier formulations (containing MO/DOPE-PEG 2000 /EPA or
DMPC/DOPE - PEG 2000 /EPA) were evidenced. The human neuroblastoma SH-
SY5Y cell line, treated with retinoic acid, was proven as a good model to study
the effi ciency and the toxicity of neuroprotective agents associated with func-
tionalized lipid NP formulations. The polyunsaturated fatty acid EPA showed
a real effect of potentiation of the neurotrophic factor BDNF alone and in a
combination with liquid crystalline monoolein-based nanoassembles.
