including a number with bunk beds, Hotel QT is one of the best
moderate options in the Times Square area. You check in at a
kiosk/front desk where you pick up periodicals or essentials to stock
your minibar. Making your way to the elevators, you might see
guests swimming in the lobby pool or having a drink at the pool's
swim-up bar, an unusual site in the Big Apple. The rooms are sparse
in tone, but the queen- and king-size platform beds are plush and
dressed with Egyptian cotton sheets. The biggest drawback is the
bathrooms: There are no doors on the bathrooms—sliding doors
conceal the shower (none of the rooms have tubs) and the toilet.

Red Roof Inn Manhattan's first and only Red Roof Inn
offers relief from Midtown's high-priced hotel scene. The hotel occu-
pies a former office building that was gutted and laid out fresh,
allowing for more spacious rooms and bathrooms than you'll usually
find in this price category. The lobby feels smart, and elevators are
quiet and efficient. In-room amenities—including coffeemakers and
TVs with on-screen Web access—are better than most competitors',
and furnishings are new and comfortable. Wi-Fi is available through-
out the property. The location—on a block lined with nice hotels
and affordable Korean restaurants, a stone's throw from the Empire
State Building—is excellent. Be sure to compare the rates offered by
Apple Core Hotel's reservation line and those quoted on Red Roof 's
national reservation line and website, as they can vary significantly.
