Where to Stay
I t's official: Hotel rates in New York are the most expensive in the
U.S. That said, there are bargains out there at every price level; but
a bargain in New York might be a king's ransom in St. Louis.
PRICE CATEGORIES & RACK RATES The hotels listed below
have provided us with their best rate estimates for 2009, and all
quoted rates were correct at press time. Be aware, however, that rates
can change at any time. Rates are always subject to availability, sea-
sonal fluctuations, and plain-old rate hikes. It's smart to expect price
shifts in both directions in late 2008 and 2009.

every level, the only drawback to this Ritz-Carlton is its remote
downtown location. But that location, on the southern tip of Man-
hattan, is also one of its strengths. Where else can you get, in most
rooms anyway, magnificent views of New York Harbor from your
bedroom—complete with telescope for close-ups of Lady Liberty?
Where else can you have a cocktail in your hotel bar and watch the
sun set over the harbor? And where else can you go for a morning jog
around the Manhattan waterfront? This modern, Art Deco-influ-
enced high-rise differs from the English-countryside look of most
Ritz-Carlton properties, including its sister hotel on Central Park

Ritz-Carlton here, from Frette-dressed feather beds to the chain's sig-
nature Bath Butler, who will draw a scented bath for you in your
own deep soaking tub. If you don't mind the location and the com-
mute to Midtown, you won't find a more luxurious choice.
