• In an ever more urban society, enthusiasm for nature and the country-
side is pronounced; over 80% of parents agree that children should know
as much as possible about nature (Future Foundation, 2011).
Many commentators have stated that the family is in destructive decline,
yet there is very little evidence to support such a proposition (Future
Foundation, 2011). What is changing is the structure of families as a result
of demographic changes. As a consequence, families are becoming more
democratic, hence destination choice and holiday activities are discussed
more among all family members. Fewer children in society mean they
