In-Depth Information
As you can see, these nested headers and entries are used to represent the
A
AND (B OR C)
logic.
Defining parameters
The filter entries that you saw earlier use hard-coded values for filter expres-
sions. In the real-world scenario, parameters are often used to dynamically pass
values to a filter expression.
Parameters are defined in the report-level. For different types of parameters and
requirements, the parameter definition has slight differences. The following are
the steps to define a parameter, which are used for the date/time comparison:
1.
In the
Filter
tab, click on the entry that contains the hard-coded data/time.
2.
Click on the
Options
button and then
New Parameter/Prompt
. The
Prompt
and Parameter Creation
dialog-box appears.
3.
In the
Name and Data Type
step, enter the following details:
•
Name:
Enter a name. For example,
p_OrderDate
.
•
Parameter Type:
This field is disabled and filled with a default type,
which matches the Data Object field type in the entry.
•
Description:
This is an optional field.
•
Value:
Choose the
Prompt the user to specify a value
option.
