In-Depth Information
Taxi
Outside MIA, South Beach and the Port of Miami, where taxis buzz around like bees at a
hive, you'll likely use a phone to hail a cab. Try Metro , Sunshine or Yellow for a ride.
Taxis in Miami have flat and metered rates. You will not have to pay extra for luggage or
for extra people in the cab, though you are expected to tip an additional 10% to 15%. Add
about 10% to normal taxi fares (or a dollar, whichever is greater). If you have a bad experi-
ence, get the driver's chauffeur license number, name and license-plate number and con-
tact the Taxi Complaints Line ( % 305-375-2460) .
In Key West, pick up a metered pink taxi from Key West Taxis ( % 305-296-6666) .
Train
Amtrak trains run between a number of Florida cities. As a way to get around Florida,
Amtrak offers extremely limited service, and yet for certain specific trips their trains can be
very easy and inexpensive. In essence, daily trains run between Jacksonville, Orlando and
Miami, with one line branching off to Tampa. In addition, Thruway Motorcoach (or bus) ser-
vice gets Amtrak passengers to Daytona Beach, St Petersburg and Fort Myers.
