Accommodations
Our reviews (and rates) use the following room types:
single occupancy (s)
double occupancy (d)
room (r), same rate for one or two people
dorm bed (dm)
suite (ste)
apartment (apt)
Unless otherwise noted, rates do not include breakfast, bathrooms are private and all
lodging is open year-round.
Rates don't include taxes, which vary considerably between towns; in fact, hotels almost
never include taxes and fees in their rate quotes, so always ask for the total rate with tax .
Florida's sales tax is 6%, and some communities tack on more, which can rise to as high as
7.5%. States, cities and towns also usually levy taxes on hotel rooms, which can increase
the final bill by 10% to 12%.
Seasonal fluctuations can see rates rise and fall dramatically, especially in Miami, Key
West and tourist beach towns. Booking in advance for high-season tourist hot spots (such
as Miami and beach towns) can be essential to ensure the room you want. However, inquir-
ing at the last minute, or even same-day, can sometimes yield amazing discounts on avail-
able rooms.
