ARGENTINE MIAMI
Argentines are mainly concentrated in Northern Miami Beach. In South America, Argen-
tines are often stereotyped as snooty compared to other South American nationalities.
Many Spanish-speaking Miamians, especially ones from South America, like to riff on this
cliché with their Argentine friends, but the comments are almost always good-natured
teasing and taken as such. North Miami Beach is also home to a good number of
Uruguayans, who have cultural and geographic ties to their Argentine neighbors.

SPANISH MIAMI
When we say Miami is a capital of the Spanish-speaking world, that applies to the home
of the mother tongue as well. Spaniards have been settling in Miami in large numbers for
the past few decades. There is no one part of Spain that produces these new arrivals; in
one part of Miami you'll find people from the Basque country who resent being called
'Spanish,' while in another you may break bread with Catalans in one restaurant, and
Castillians in another. Many of the best high-end grocery stores, bakeries, cheese shops
and meat shops in Miami are run by Spaniards.
El Carajo A semi-hidden tapas joint beloved by Spanish expats.
JAPANESE MIAMI
Miami does not have a particularly large Japanese community, but there are some Japan-
ese here. Many are businesspeople participating in the global economy and international
commerce, but there is also a large number of contemporary artists and designers who
are attracted by Miami's growing cultural credibility. No one neighborhood in Miami can
be said to be Japanese.
Matsuri A popular sushi spot for expat Japanese.
