Everglades Hostel offers fantastic tours of the Eastern Everglades. You can either paddle
into the bush, or if you don't mind getting a little damp, embark on a 'wet walk' into a
flowered and fecund cypress dome, stepping through black water and around the edges of
an alligator wallow.

Located in a cluttered, comfy 1930s boarding house, this friendly hostel has good-value
dorms, private rooms and 'semi-privates' (you have an enclosed room within the dorms
and share a bathroom with dorm residents). But what they've done with their backyard -
wow. It's a serious garden of earthly delights. There's a tree house; a natural rock-cut pool
with a waterfall; a Bedouin pavilion that doubles as a dancehall; a gazebo; an open-air ten-
ted 'bed room'; an oven built to resemble a tail-molting tadpole. It all needs to be seen to
be believed, and best of all you can sleep anywhere in the back for $18. Sleep in a tree-
house! We think that's an amazing deal. We should add the crowd is made up of all those
funky international traveler types that made you fall in love with backpacking in the first
place, and the hostel conducts some of the best tours into the Everglades around.
