With excellent views overlooking the waters from the 79th St Causeway, Shuckers has to
be one of the best-positioned restaurants around. The food is pub grub: burgers, fried fish
and the like. We come here for one reason: the chicken wings. They're basted in several
mouthwatering sauces, deep-fried and grilled again. We could sit here and devour a flock
of poultry if our willpower was low.
Chivitoteca URUGUAYAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; % 305-864-5252; 6987 Collins Ave; mains $5.50-16; h noon-11:30pm Mon-
Thu, to 1am Fri & Sat, to midnight Sun)
Heart, meet the chivito : a Uruguayan sandwich of steak, ham, cheese, fried eggs and may-
onnaise (there may have been lettuce, peppers and tomatoes too, but the other ingredients
just laughed at them). Now run, heart, run away! That's just the basics, by the way, and it
comes with fries. You can also get pizza served by the meter, because honestly, at this
stage you should just let yourself go.
La Perrada de Edgar FAST FOOD
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; % 305-866-4543; 6976 Collins Ave; hot dogs $4-7; h noon-midnight)
Back in the day, Colombia's most (in)famous export to Miami was cocaine. But seriously,
what's powder got on La Perrada and its kookily delicious hot dogs that were devised by
some Dr Evil of the frankfurter world? Don't believe us? Try an especial, topped with
plums, pineapple and whipped cream. How about shrimp and potato sticks? Apparently
these are normal hot-dog toppings in Colombia. The homemade lemonade also goes down
a treat.
o Steve's Pizza PIZZERIA
( % 305-891-0202; www.stevespizzas.net ; 12101 Biscayne Blvd; slices $3, pizzas $10-16; h 11am-3am
Sun-Wed, to 4am Thu & Fri, to 2am Sat)
So many pizza chains compete for the attention of tourists in South Beach, but ask a
Miami Beach local where to get the best pizza and they'll tell you about Steve's. This is
New York-style pizza, thin crust and handmade with care and good ingredients. New
branches of Steve's are opening elsewhere in Miami, all in decidedly nontouristy areas,
