Palms Hotel HOTEL

The lobby of the Palms manages to be imposing and comfortable all at once; the soaring
ceiling, cooled by slow-spinning giant rattan fans, makes for a colonial-villa-on-
convention-center-steroids vibe. Upstairs the rooms are perfectly fine, a mix of pastel col-
ors and comfortable, if slightly bland, furnishings.
Downtown Miami
Epic HOTEL

$240-510, ste from $570; paWs )
Epic indeed! This massive Kimpton hotel is one of the more attractive options downtown
and it possesses a coolness cred that could match any spot on Miami Beach. Of particular
note is the outdoor pool and sun deck, which overlooks a gorgeous sweep of Brickell and
the surrounding condo canyons. The rooms are outfitted in designer-chic furnishings and
some have similarly beautiful views of greater Miami-Dade. There's a youthful energy
throughout that's lacking in other corporate-style downtown hotels.
Mandarin Oriental Miami
HOTEL

Brickell Key Dr; r $380-750, ste from $950; paWs )
The Mandarin shimmers on Brickell Key, which is actually annoying - you're a little isol-
ated from the city out here. Not that it matters; there's a luxurious world within a world in-
side this exclusive compound, from swank restaurants to a private beach and skyline views
that look back at Miami from the far side of Biscayne Bay. Rooms are good in a luxury-
chain kind of way, but nothing sets them apart from other sleeps in this price range.
