MIMO ON BIBO
That cute little phrase means 'Miami Modern on Biscayne Boulevard,' and refers to the ar-
chitectural style of buildings on North Biscayne Blvd past 55th Street. Specifically, there
are some great roadside motels here with lovely, Rat Pack-era '50s neon beckoning visit-
ors in. This area was neglected for a long time, and some of these spots are seedy (when
we asked one owner why she advertised rooms for only $25, she smiled and said, 'Por
hora'- by the hour). But north BiBo is also one of Miami's rapidly gentrifying areas, and
savvy motel owners are cleaning up their act and looking to attract the hipsters, artists
and gay population flocking to the area. There's already exciting food here. Now the
lodgings are getting stimulating too. All these hotels provide South Beach comfort at half
the price.

) This hotel has been around since the 1950s and it shows - in a
good way. If you could turn a classic Cadillac into a hotel with a modern interior and hip-
ster cred, then bam, there's the New Yorker in a nutshell. Staff are friendly and the rooms
- done up with pop art, geometric designs and solid colors - would make Andy Warhol
proud.

) Situated above Miami's Little River, the Blu may not look like much
from the outside, but inside you'll find freshly done-up rooms with a host of modern
amenities. Rooms are comfortable and have a soothing lime-and-lemon interior.

) The Bianco situates several orange-and-milky-white rooms around a
glittery courtyard where coffee is served and guests can get to know each other. Contem-
porary art designs swirl through the larger rooms and wicker furniture abounds
throughout.
