Wind power
The answer, my friend...
Of the “new renewables”, wind has grown fastest. Since 2000 the instal-
lation of wind power capacity has quadrupled, doubling about every
three years. Wind - at least onshore wind - has also become the most
mainstream of renewables. The technology is well understood (see
below). Its economics are improving, its costs are coming down, and it
forms part of the portfolio of virtually every big energy company.
Europe pioneered the modern wind power industry. Manufacture of
modern wind turbines started in Denmark, which now generates twenty
