A half mile long, Main Beach ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ) (aka Corona del Mar State Beach)
lies at the foot of rocky cliffs. There are restrooms, fire rings (arrive early to snag one) and
volleyball courts. All-day parking costs $15, but spaces fill by 9am on weekends. Scenes
from the classic TV show Gilligan's Island were shot at waveless, family-friendly Pirates
Cove ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ) ; take the nearby stairs off the north end of the Main Beach
parking lot.

With 3.5 miles of open beach and over 2300 acres of undeveloped woodland, this is both a
state beach ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 949-494-3539; www.parks.ca.gov ; 8471 N Coast Hwy; per
car $15, campsites $25-75) and an underwater park. Scuba enthusiasts can check out two his-
toric anchors dating from the 1800s as well as the crash site of a Navy plane that went
down in the 1940s. Alternatively just go tide pooling, fishing, kayaking and surfing along
the undeveloped shoreline.
