Balboa Fun Zone AMUSEMENT PARK

On the harbor side of Balboa Peninsula, the Fun Zone has delighted locals and visitors
since 1936. There's a small Ferris wheel ($4 per ride, where Ryan and Marissa shared their
first kiss on The OC ), arcade games, touristy shops and restaurants, and frozen banana
stands (just like the one in the TV sit-com Arrested Development ). The landmark 1905
Balboa Pavilion ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ) is beautifully illuminated at night.

In the Balboa Fun Zone, this newly refurbished museum calls itself an 'ocean literacy cen-
ter' with critter-filled touch tanks, remotely operated vehicles, the rowboat used by adven-
turer Roz Savage on her five-year, round-the-world solo voyage, and an innovation lab.

This engaging museum highlights California art and cutting-edge contemporary artists,
with exhibitions rotating through two large spaces. There's also a sculpture garden, eclect-
