Big Bear Blvd (Hwy 18), the main road, runs south of the lake, skirting the pedestrian-
friendly village with cutesy shops, galleries, restaurants and the visitors center
( www.bigbear.com ; 630 Bartlett Rd; 8am-5pm Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Sat & Sun) . The ski resorts are
east of the village. Quiet N Shore Dr (Hwy 38) provides access to campgrounds and trails.
If you're driving, pick up a National Forest Adventure Pass, available at the Big Bear
Discovery Center (

Getting There & Away
Big Bear is on Hwy 18, an offshoot of Hwy 30 in San Bernardino. A quicker approach is
via Hwy 330, which starts in Highland and intersects with Hwy 18 in Running Springs.
Mountain Area Regional Transit Authority (Marta; 909-878-5200; www.marta.cc ) buses
connect Big Bear with the Greyhound and Metrolink stations in San Bernardino ($2.50,
1ΒΌ hours).
