Hotel Maya
BOUTIQUE HOTEL
from $179; )
This once boutique property now associated with Double Tree hits you with hip immedi-
ately upon entering the rusted-steel and glass lobby, and continues in the rooms (think:
coral tile, river-rock headboards), which are set in four 1970s-era hexagons with views of
downtown Long Beach. The floating poolside cabanas aren't bad either.
Pasadena
Bissell House B&B
B&B
Pasadena; r $159-259; )
Antiques, hardwood floors and a crackling fireplace make this secluded Victorian B&B on
'Millionaire's Row' a bastion of warmth and romance. The hedge-framed garden feels like
a sanctuary, and there's a pool for cooling off on hot summer days. The Prince Albert
room has gorgeous wallpaper and a claw-foot tub. All seven rooms have private baths.
Langham
RESORT
ena; r from $230; )
Opened as the Huntington Hotel in 1906, this place spent the last several decades as the
Ritz Carlton before recently donning the robes of Langham. But some things don't change:
this incredible 23-acre, palm-dappled, beaux-arts country estate - complete with rambling
gardens, giant swimming pool and covered picture bridge - has still got it. Rates are reas-
onable.
