Pasadena
One could argue that there is more blue-blood, meat-eating, robust Americana in Pasadena
than in all other LA neighborhoods combined. Here is a community with a preppy old
soul, a historical perspective, an appreciation for art and jazz and a slightly progressive un-
dercurrent.
The Rose Parade and Rose Bowl ( GOOGLE MAP ; 626-577-3100;

ena its long-lasting fame, but it's the spirit of this genteel city and its location beneath the
lofty San Gabriel Mountains that make it a charming and attractive place year-round. Don't
miss the Huntington Library ( GOOGLE MAP ; 626-405-2100; www.huntington.org ; 1151 Ox-

The two-lane Angeles Crest Scenic Byway ( www.byways.org/explore/byways/10245/
travel.html ; Hwy 2) treats you to fabulous views of big-shouldered mountains, the Mojave
Desert and deep valleys on its 55-mile meander from La Cañada to the resort town of
Wrightwood. The road skirts LA County's tallest mountain, officially called Mt San Anto-
nio (10,064ft), but better known as Old Baldy for its treeless top.
