In mid-July, this old-fashioned county fair combines agriculture exhibits, carnival rides,
and lots of food and wine. The fairgrounds are in Santa Maria, over an hour's drive north-
west of Santa Barbara via Hwy 101.
Old Spanish Days Fiesta

The entire city fills up during late July and early August for this long-running - if slightly
overblown - festival celebrating Santa Barbara's Spanish and Mexican colonial heritage.
Festivities include outdoor bazaars and food markets, live music, flamenco dancing, horse-
back and rodeo events, and a big ol' parade.
