DIY WALKING TOURS
Santa Barbara's self-guided 12-block Red Tile walking tour is a convenient introduction
to downtown's historical highlights. The tour's name comes from the half-moon-shaped
red clay tiles covering the roofs of many Spanish Revival-style buildings. You can down-
load a free map of this walking tour, as well as other paths along the waterfront and to the
mission, from Santa Barbara Car Free ( www.santabarbaracarfree.org ) . For a lazy stroll
between wine-tasting rooms, follow the city's Urban Wine Trail .
Activities
Cycling
A paved recreational path stretches 3 miles along the waterfront in both directions from
Stearns Wharf, west to Leadbetter Beach beyond the harbor and east just past East Beach.
For more pedaling routes, Bike Santa Barbara County ( www.bike-santabarbara.org ) offers
free downloadable DIY cycling tours of the city, mountains and Wine Country, along with
links to bicycle rentals and specialty shops.
