Diving & Snorkeling
Monterey Bay offers world-renowned diving and snorkeling, including off Lovers Point
in Pacific Grove and at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve south of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
You'll want a wetsuit year-round. In summer upwelling currents carry cold water from the
deep canyon below the bay, sending a rich supply of nutrients up toward the surface level
to feed the bay's diverse marine life. These frigid currents also account for the bay's chilly
water temperatures and the summer fog that blankets the peninsula.
