Like its larger namesake in San Francisco, Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf is a tacky
tourist trap, but also a jumping-off point for deep-sea fishing trips and whale-watching
cruises. A short walk east at workaday Municipal Wharf 2 , fishing boats bob and sway in
the bay.

The brainchild of Hank Ketcham, the creator of the classic Dennis the Menace comic strip,
this ain't your standard dumbed-down playground suffocated by Big Brother's safety regu-
lations. With lightning-fast slides, a hedge maze, a suspension bridge and towering climb-
ing walls, even some adults can't resist playing here.
Cycling & Mountain-Biking
Along an old railway line, the Monterey Peninsula Recreational Trail travels for 18 car-
free miles along the waterfront, passing Cannery Row en route to Lovers Point in Pacific
