ated independent hotel. It may seem a bit like a better-than-average highway exit chain,
but colorful bedspreads and warm hosts add necessary homespun appeal. The rooms up-
stairs in the back have views of the lighthouse and the harbor.

Just south of town, this basic, old-fashioned motel is the only place in town to stay right on
the beach, offering views that distract you from the somewhat plain indoor environs. Skip

County-run Florence Keller Park has 50 sites in a beautiful grove of young redwoods (take
Hwy 101 north to Elk Valley Cross Rd and follow the signs).

The County's Ruby Van Deventer Park has 18 sites along the Smith River, off Hwy 197.

This popular local cafe is in a spacious location across from the harbor. It's got a bit of
everything - all pretty good - from soups and sandwiches to full meals and smoothies.
Good beers, a crackling fire and loads of vegetarian options make this the best dining spot
in town.
